If he is starting to get MBD, improving his diet can help some, and so can calcium from the vet, if necessary. Cheaper and possibly even more effective is getting him outside for some natural sunlight, because UV is critical for calcium metabolism and proper bone formation. Of course it depends if weather conditions will permit this where you live, and you need a suitable enclosure (most important: don't leave the ig alone, make sure he has water and shade and can't escape, don't put him out in a glass-sided enclosure in direct sun). Just 20 min/day will make a huge difference, more if possible.
