if there is diarrhea or diarrhea + vomiting, you know to be careful re dehydration.....
If you "pinch" up some skin and it stays tented, you got it started so start pumping fluids. If they can't stay down, call dr for meds to help with this.
If you smell the person's breath and it smells like fingernail polish remover....get thee some help quick!! Some sources say a "fruity" smell while others cite the acetone smell. I know when my child was sick with a virus I smelled nail polish remover on her breath...went to children's ER where she was admitted for 3 days on IV fluids. And this was after only 18 HOURS of having a virus...it wasn't as if she'd been having d/v for days on end...HOURS caused severe dehydration.
So whether we're talking salmonella or viruses, it's really important to know signs of dehydration.
