You're gonna love this.....I am the head of the rept. dept. at a local petstore. The other evening, I went to work (I work full-time elsewhere during the day) and found that "some lady had found this little lizard in her mother's back yard and brought it in to us". I was presented with an iguana. Although I'm the rept. head, I know very little about iguanas but something about her bothered me. She spent all evening either sleeping on my shoulder or my lap as I did my job. I fixed her up a nice cage, the boss decided what I should sell this free iguana for and I went home at the end of my time. The next day, I went there during my lunch hour to find the iguana still sleeping. It bothered me so I bought this iguana that the store had been given for free. My husband took it to the vet who told us that in addition to a respiratory, she was badly dehydrated and badly malnourished. He gave her a shot, gave us some pills to force down her and told us to forcefeed her some Ensure each day until she's strong enough to eat on her own. It breaks my heart when I see her. She recognizes me and cuddles against me when I pick her up or, when I stick my hand in to check on her, she puts her head in my hand. We've only had her since yesterday. I've tried to handfeed her but she just isn't up to it. In addition to the vet's assistance, does anyone have any further advice we might try? The vet said that at one time she was obviously well cared for but she's been either let go or escaped and has been on her own for quite some time.
