as long as your hot water heater is set high enough (120 degrees i think?!?!?) the dishwasher would be *the* way to go! there's no way you can hand wash anything at that high a temp for as long as a dishwasher will ... that's why restaurant's + nursing homes, etc. will run the dishes thru the dishwasher, even tho they've been washed by hand, to disinfect + prevent spread of disease ...
hubby is looking over my shoulder + has pointed out that some dishwashers have their own 'water heater' to raise the water temp high enough and also that some dishwasher's 'dry' cycle is hot enough that it too may disinfect ... i dunno, we're stuck washing the old fashioned way ... (letting the puppy lick 'em off and then putting them away ... ROTF!!)
