As far as your friends iguana being curious, well as with dogs, some are and some aren't......I've seen nervous dogs and then I've seen dogs that just about nothing scares. So you just might have an iguana who isn't too sure about everything around him. Being out going with him as he grows with help some. Spending alot of time is probably the key to changing this in him too. But yet again, some no matter what you do, will always be nervous.
We have a male iguana, that just as soon never see anyone all day long. He's so shy that, I think his shadow would scare him. He's around 2 years ago I believe. Oh course we can't spend as much time as we'd like with him but we're hoping when we locate him a home, that the new owner will be able to adjust him alittle more to being around people.
