hey, all
Blah. I am so frustrated right now, I need to vent a little. I scoured Mader's book trying to find some more information about sebaceous cysts, and never did find anything more. Nothing about causes or treatments. Blah. So I posted to the VIN vet forum, and now I'm even more frustrated. I told them that a guy from a forum I frequent described some problems with his ig's tail and I explained a bit about it. I asked about possible causes and a little more information about sebaceous vysts. All I got was a knee-jerk reaction post from a gent named Dr.Harkewicz. He told me this that the ONLY thing I can do is take my iguana to a vet, asked me where I lived so he could give me a list of good vets in my area, refused to tell me anything about them or treatments, because "a qualified vet needs to make a diagnosis FIRST" (caps his) He wouldn't tell me anything because he has seen so many " '"home surgeries and
treatments' become disasters." And then repeated that I need to take my iguana to a vet. *SIGH* I mean, it's a good enough forum (For one whose main litany is "get thee to a vet"), and I'm not knocking it or the Dr who answered me...but he didn't even read enough of the post to know that the iguana wasn't even MINE! It frustrated me a little. Sorry...needed to vent. Looks like we're not going to get any help there.
best,

: Hi, Dustin,
: Well, I've done a little reading in Mader's about your ig's afflictions, and altho he didn't offer much information in the way of treatment, I think I might have a name for it: sebaceous cysts. They are frequently noted on many reptiles, particualrly the tails of green iguanas. They begin as lumps and eventually aplit open without much infectious material inside. I'm having a really hard time trying to find treatments or even possible causes. I'll keep looking. Do you have a picture of this that you can post for us? I've got a pic right here of a sebaceous cyst on an iguana's tail, and I'd like to compare. Hope this helps a little.
: Best,
: Jamie/JBug
