I have a question for you, Out of all the groupings that you talk about, how many injuries ( bites, missing toes, cuts, etc..) have been reported housing multi-igs together???
Please don't exclude during breeding season, as a NON-believer in breeding iguanas at this time, I also would have to say I don't believe a captive iguana should be injuried due to being housed with other iguanas.
You talk about "idea conditions" I would say my "idea conditions" would be to change their environment so that they're not subject to injuries from other iguanas in captivity. This would lessen the chance of infection from bites or cuts. My opinion also of "idea conditions" would not be grouping them together as much as overall health conditions (humidity, heat, diet, UVB, etc) to assure a long healthier life. Finding the best of those items and assuring that our iguanas get as full a life as possible, I believe is what we're doing here.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe an iguana that's housed alone will live a shorter life than an iguana that's been housed with multi iguanas. Humans for the some part, are social animals, they would go nuts without companionship but I don't believe reptiles are like this. They may group together for other things, such as protection or just a mating group, but to believe they're social is reaching kinda far.....this is only my opinion. I think they can take it or leave it.
But again, I would like to hear from you about injuries that accure keeping multi-iguanas together.
