: I have come to posess a large Male spiny Iguanna, stated to be 12 years old, and about 4 ft long, reason for so short is tail broken many times, and seldom corrected. He bit the hell out of prior owner, apparently almost amputating lower lip, he's shown no such aggression to me so far. we provide him with heating pad, and a sunny window. He appears to have severe mouth rot, on left side, lip protrudes quite noticable, and we have been treating his for that, however he eats only when forced, and I can't imagine I am building any brownie points with him between medicating him and force feeding him. Should I contain him in a large Terrarium, to ensure higher temperatures, or allow him to sit and bask, using the heating pad, and as for mouth rot, been treating for a week with minor lowering of swelling also less sputum/ discharge from lesion in mouth. Also why would this generate a " hole " entirely though skin to outsided discharging small amounts of material, blood, small amounts of yellowish matter, I mean hole right through lower jaw, through mouth tissue, to air. I know mouth rot untreated is almost always fatal, and I have always kept snakes, where this really isn't a issue execpt for extremely rare occasions, but the prior owner states this is alwost a annual event, whats wrong. please provide me with data , either using this forum or by E-Mail,
: Thanks

Has a vet taken a look? It sounds like it could be an abscess that has ruptured. This might require more aggressive means to let it heal completely.
