Hi Debbie...great! You will really like these bulbs Im telling you! Your ig will LOOK better, will be more ACTIVE, ALERT, they actually look HAPPY!! But proper spacing from that light is a MUST! How big is your enclosure? What are the watts of the bulb? What is the distance from the bulb to your ig? What is the set up going to be like...I wouldn't want my ig 'facing' the bulb (Im too paranoid ;-) How old is your ig? You may have to experiment for the first few days moving it or? to see what would be the proper distance.....Just don't have the light directly over him. It sounds like such a hassle don't it..but WELL WORTH IT!!
I have barriers (like small screens) hanging from the top of the enclosures (Plywood w/ lots of holes drilled in it) between the light and my igs (the light is up above in Juanas enclosure almost 2 ft from her butt....and Feo's almost 4 feet from his behind). I have the lights on timers for 2 hours a day and usually when I can't get em out. Now today was sunny so both igs were outside all day...so I won't run em at all....I am being very cautious almost downright paranoid. Others Ive talked to about these bulbs say I don't need the barriers but so far they seem to be getting good uvb. The thing I like about em is they will last me forever! a uvb bulb!! no need to replace for a long time 2 hrs a day!! Winter only! The uvb emitted from them is no where near the uvb my igs get when they are outside. These lights are even better than the flourescent tubes...Going back to a Vitalite or ESU or Reptisun is like putting a plant light in their enclosure....granted my igs are outside alot too! So how much is too much exposure? One thing we know for sure...is that our igs won't "overdose" on natural/artificial exposure to uvb....but because Im still relatively new at this...Im taking as many precautions as I can. I think Debbie that you'd be wise to also. If your igs are not outside much or at all...then I would run the lights longer...just make sure You or YOUR IG is not staring at the lights or has access to em or working right under them (I imagine them like uvc from tanning salon lights )wait until they are off for about 30 minutes before cleaning the enclosure...I still have a nasty burn on my left hand after I hit the bulb..(about 10 minutes after it turned off)
Post back or email me with any questions I'll try and help as best I can!
