My eldest daughter brought me another Ig last evening. She had it in a pillow case and I could smell it before she ever opened the bag. The animal's belly and sides were caked with old feces. In over 50 years of keeping reptiles, I've never seen anything like it!

Needless to say, I am less than thrilled.

If I have the story straight, she (a female) was kept in a crate with a hardware cloth top. In summer, the whole thing was put outside and in winter, stashed in a corner somewhere. This arrangement was rarely if ever cleaned (obviously! My daughter was wise in not bringing me the cage). Her diet, reportably, wasn't all that bad except for "treats". These included pizza, cheese, and other crap. Daughter sez that a favorite show-off trick was to poke her with a hot dog, and she'd snap the end off and swallow it. Daughter sez she saw this, and I believe it. This is the worst-tempered lizard I have ever had to deal with.

Got her in the bath tub and after a fight that would have looked good on the WWF, got her washed. She's cleaned up pretty good except for the Hot Rock scar that is almost a badge of honor with Igs, it seems, and some fairly extensive skin blister on her belly and sides. This last should clear up with a simple series of saline washes.

I've displaced a very angry Great Basin Rattlesnake from his spacious quarters to give her a place - no way can this one free-roam like G.G.

This morning during her warm soak, she defecated - Good deal! The stool was a little runnier than I'd like to see it, but not enough to worry about at this time. Also she hasn't eaten, but I don't much expect her to for a few more days. What with baths and all, she's really stressed out. But all things considered, she's not in that bad a shape.

Much more difficult will be getting her into some semelence of civilized. She's a chronic biter and picking her up is a sure-fire way to get hamburger hands.

Here we go again. Ah well.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

PS: G.G. and Missy are doing well in their new home.
