Has anyone here ever disected an iguana egg? I actually disected one of Shakai's today. No, that's not true, I disected several. I suspected that some of them were fertile, as Einstein and Shakai have actually mated a few times this season. Since I don't have the money, time or (honestly) inclination to incubate, hatch, house, feed and find homes for XX amount of little baby iggies, I froze the eggs early on. (Please, send any flames to my private email address, I've come to expect them on this subject. thanks) Well, today I thawed out a few eggs and disected some. All of the eggs were mostly made up of bright yellow yolk, and no whites that I could tell. A few of the eggs (mostly the bigger ones, not all of them) had a small cluster of cell-like material on the far wall of the egg. It had a mucas-like consistency, and was mostly clear-ish white with actual tiny blood veins (at least I think they were) running through it. I'm guessing that these were embreyos, perhaps? The cluster, whatever is was, also had two small dark "cells" (I know their not cells, such as they are, but it describes them the way I want it to) on either side of the top of the cluster, on corresponding sides of the head. They were reminiscent of eyes, altho I'm sure that there would be no 'eyes' developed in so young an embreyo, especially before anything else was clearly defined. What do you all think? Would you say these were fertile eggs? Interesting thread, don't you think? I thought some of you would be fascinated by the subject, interested in knowing what's inside an iguana's egg.
