tho it is very common for igs to lose part of their tail, it is still a very traumatic injury and imho, needs to be treated by a vet, asap!

when iZ broke his tail, we were able to save it ... i was really glad cuz it broke a good 12" from the end! it depends alot on *how* injured the tail is ...

if he still has feeling at the end of the tail, there's a chance that there is still enough blood flow to it + minimum nerve damage and it might be save-able ...

since really bad things have happened to iZ from an undetected infection, i *strongly* suggest a trip to the vet to get some oral antibiotics and try to *prevent* an infection, (much easier than not discovering it ... )

also advise keeping him still and quiet for a week and give him a chance to heal and not injure the tail more ... with iZ, this was actually easier than it sounds! i simply didn't turn his lights on during the day and he slept *alot* ... plus broken bones hurt + he didn't mind the encouragement to sleep more ... i'd gently carry him downstairs to the tub to poop and then tuck him back in bed ...

i wouldn't try to splint the tail ... igs don't seem to appreciate bandages much at all! just try to keep him quiet ...

but really, get to a vet tomorrow ok?? ok!
best of luck + headbobs from iZ!
let us know how he's doin'!!!
