In Reply to: Possible causes of sudden paralysis? HELP!!!! posted by johne on March 23, 2000 at 08:41:29:

one thing i've noticed about igs, is that they tend to hide *very well* the fact they are sick until they are *very* sick ... but injuries are another thing ... iZ has suffered thru various injuries and makes no attempt to hide the fact if he is in pain ...

my point is that it sounds doubtful that the fall caused the paralysis ... the paralysis prob'ly caused the fall ...

iZ lost control of both his legs last fall due to kidney problems ... !!! ... his kidneys were so swollen that they were pressing on nerves + left him unable to move his back legs at all ... it's pretty sad to see them drag themselves along with their arms isn't it????? amazed me how strong their upper bodies are tho!!!

anyway ... long story short, iZ's health is improving (with alot of hard work + intense care!) ... but he'd showed *no* 'early warning signs' of how sick he was until he was at death's door ...

ummmm ... is there a point here?? oh yeah ... *grin* ... find a really good *ig* vet + take your ig in asap! i know it can be a miserable experience trying to find a *real* ig-vet! the best way i've found is to call around + find an ig *surgeon* ... even if you're not anticipating surgery, someone who is a sucessful surgeon will *know* igs + that's what you want right now ... all we can do here is guess at various causes + pretty much get nowhere ...

let us know how you + your iggy are doin' ok???
best wishes!
iZ + mom
