iZ had one like that before he convinced me he needs his own room ... (*geesh* ... *I* don't even have my own room! ... anyway ....)
i like the plastic mesh alot better than the wire mesh ... it's loads eaiser to work with + cut to size + tends to be fairly inexpensive ... there's also no sharp edges for you *or* your ig to get scratched on ... it stood up to alot of iZ climbing + taking flying leaps at it too, so it should be strong enough for *most* igs ...
i would suggest making your dimensions a bit bigger ... the 2' wide isn't very wide for a 4' ig to turn around in, even it's it's gonna primarily be a sleeping room ... make it as big as possible, as tall as possible ...
the one *huge* problem i ran into is that i put it together in the livingroom and didn't think to measure the apt's doorways ... *DUUUUUH!* ... had to dismantle it when we moved to a house ... *sigh*
'nother problem *could* be heat + humidity + keeping both high enough in the winter months, depending on where you live ... i 'shrink-wrapped' iZ's with the neat very clear plastic they have now for winter-proofing houses + that worked great! tho pleixglass would prob'ly be a better solution, it's also rather expensive ...
i treated all the wood with polyurethane *before* i put it together ... it was easier to let the boards air out by themsleves outside than to paint the whole thing when it was done ... i put it together using wood screws instead of nails ... if you can get ahold of a screw gun or even one of those little electric screw-drivers, that's the way to go! makes it *alot* easier to dismantle, for whatever reason ... like doorways! or when i disasembled it to use the pieces for his room ... screw guns rule!!!
good luck + happy building!
