The first hour is the most important in terms of keeping infection away. If you haven't already taken your ig to a vet to determine what to do, whether the tail needs to be amputated a little more to stop encroaching infection, for future reference, the best thing to do is immediately put like a neosporin, polysporin or any anti-microbial ointment on the wound after you have stopped the bleeding. Then apply like a betadine (povidine-iodine)or chlorhexidine twice a day early am and night to keep it clean.I would not bandage it at all. Peroxide and alcohol is not a good choice in cleaning wounds because they also destroy healthy tissue!. Good thing about all this your ig will grown his tail back ...this happens way too much to iguanas for it to be a big deal but I sure do understand your concerns. Keep us posted on what you or your vet has done about the situation.
