In Reply to: I have a quetions about Spiney-Tail Igaunas, Cuban Iguanas, & Rhino Igaunas. posted by Thom on March 21, 2000 at 17:24:15:
: Hi,
: I will make this as easy as possible...
: 1.) How Big do Spiney-Tail, Cuban, & Rhino Iggs get?
--Anywhere from 1 foot (a couple of spiney-tails) to 5 feet - most in 4-5' range I think.
: 2.) Do these species have salmonella like Green Iggs?\
--All reptiles may carry salmonella.
: 3.) Whats the price range for these species and where can I find them.
--They are free, contact your nearest Reptile Rescue! LOL! Many of us here do not support these creatures in the pet trade. read on ...
: 4.) What is the cage requirements for these species?
--Humungous, eventually they need at least one full room. Even my dwarf spiney-tail, for some silly reason, just hid until we put him and his entire bulk of 4 inches into a a 41/2'x 2 x 2' awesome cage full of hanging vines (plastic), and tangled roots of driftwood (soaked in super mild bleach solution for 24 hours, then air dried for 24hrs every week or two). I can't imagine having a larger spiney-tail.
: 5.) Are these good species to work with since I'm a newbie to Lizards?
--Good to work with??? ROFLMAO!!!! I dunno - how easily can you be trained?????
:
Thom I'm sorry, I don't mean to be flip, but that is just too funny!!! Our kids run our lives, and we love them unconditionally. They also MAKE our lives!!! But they truly are a lot of care. It takes an abnormal amount of money, patience, and TIME to be a successful lizard owner. It is very rewarding - a good return on your investment - but you must be prepared for the committment. I'm sure everyone else here will send to the appropriate sites to learn about UVB lighting, heat requirements, and feeding. Feeding is the biggie - it takes me a total of four hours a week to prepare the food.
It is WONDERFUL to see you here asking questions BEFORE buying!!!!
WELCOME TO THE FORUM THOM!
