Vega$ has done that before, with basking with her mouth open in different locations -- on her baskingspot, at the beach, in the car. The temps aren't that warm even to begin with. This is not to eliminate the possiblity that the spot *IS* too hot; place a therm under the hot spot to determine the temp. However, igs do thermoregulate with their snouts open. My beardie does this as well. As long as the iguana has a cool spot to retreat to and the ambient temperature isn't unreasonably warm, the iguana should be ok.

What's Sammy's current setup??
