how am i figuring the dosage of Gelusil??? (*grin*) ... *alot* of math! remember that Gelusil is a temporary emergency measure ...

Amphojel dose is 1cc/kg twice a day

Ampho contains 320mg of aluminum hydroxide per 5cc ... or ... 64mg per 1cc ... so dosage for iZ's current weight (5.25 kg) is 11.5cc / 736mg per day ...

Milk of Mag contains 400mg magnesium hydroxide per 5cc ... 80mg per 1cc ... dosage for iZ's current weight is 5.25cc / 420mg per day ...

Gelusil ~ one tablet contains 200mg of aluminum hydroxide + 200mg of magnesium hydroxide ...

while it would take over 3 tabs to get enough aluminum hydroxide in him, the max amount of magnesium hydroxide he can have is only *2.25* tabs ... so we are settling for a way reduced amount of aluminum hydroxide but it is better than absolutely nothing until his script is filled tomorrow ...

current levels being given:
400 mag.hydroxide
400 alum. hydroxide (just over 50% of what he needs)

(*whew*!)

he's not constipated to the point where he's not going at all (thank goodness) ... it's just been alot less quanity-wise + doesn't quite look like an ig-poop ... i wouldn't think anything of it except for that's how this all started last year + so it's now a warning sign ... tonight tho, he pooped big time + made his humom *very* happy*!

i'm learning way too much about constipation + drugs + dosages ... *sigh* ...

thank you for your support + input! knowing there's people 'out there' who truly care *really does* mean alot to me!!!
