Ever notice that you sometimes talk baby-talk to your animals. Every day between 4:00pm & 5:00pm Sneakers gets put in a tub of chest high slightly warm water. He's learned that if he goes poop, mom gets real excited and says something stupid in a high little voice, like "Sneakers you are such a good boy, you went poopies.") I think he does it just to see mom make a fool out of herself. LOL
He also has a large water dish in his cage just in case. He is now using that as his toilet in emergencies. He did start out pooping in his cage on a paper towel. I noticed that he had picked out a particular spot in the cage to go poop. I just put a couple of paper towels down in that area and he just started pooping on them. We have done that with our bearded dragons as well. Noticed where they have made their bathroom area of their cage, put a paper towel down in that area, presto they use the paper towel. Real easy to clean up and replace the paper towel.
Joan (I know I could of used the word feces when training Sneakers, but it just seemed so impersonal)
