Here's my advice and what works for me: Give her her favorite food, even if it happens to be one that's not terribly good for her. (Excluding any animal protein, of course). Give her a lot of it, in case she has the energy to eat it. Example: when Shakai laid last year, I steamed her some brussels sprouts and cooked her some basmati rice. Now, neither of those things are the greatest choise for an iguana's diet, but she dearly loves them both, and, once egg laying is finished, the mainly important thing is that she gets some food in her. Lace it with calcium, not too heavily, but maybe a bit more than you would typically. She'll probably be ravenous, but if she doesn't gobble it up right away, don't panic. Egg-layuing is physically exhausting. She may be too tired to eat right away. Give her LOTS of cool, fresh water, from a squirt bottle if she doesn't drink from a dish. If she appears really dehydrated, give her pedialyte through a needless syringe instead of water. Make sure that she has water at all times. Keep offering her food, because once she's recovered, she'll be starving. Keep her warm and try not to bother her too much. Also, for the next few days, keep a close eye on her in case not all the eggs were laid successfully. Most females will continue digging for a while after she's laid her eggs. If she's still digging after a week, I'd be a little concerned. Otherwise, watch her color and her activity level. If her colors get muddy and she doesn't resume eating soon, and if she becomes very lethargic and inactive, that's a red flag that indicated trouble, and she should be examined by a herp vet. Good luck! I'm sure she'll be fine! Keep us posted!
Best,
Jamie/JBug
p.s. After the first inital feeding of "treats" and food she really likes, be sure and return to her normal diet, to prevent and dietary disorders!
J.

: And I wasn't even sure she was a she!!! Now I KNOW!! I've searched a lot of sites and I haven't been able to find a good answer to my question. Now what???

: I gave her a nice warm soaking and cleaned out her cage of all the eggs when she wasn't looking. She so skinney!!! Is there anything special I'm supposed to do for her now?? I assume extra calcium, but beyond that, I'm not sure.

: Any advise would be greatly appreciated by me AND the princess!!!!

: Thanks so much!!
: Leslie O.
