"full spectrum bulbs" is a very misleading term! Ex....plant lights are labeled as 'full spectrum' like GE's "Sunshine" tubes'....but they emit usually less the 2% uvb...not enough for majority of reptiles who require uvb for proper metabolizing of nutrients...so
Make sure:
uvb emitting flourescent tubes around the 5-7% range have been deemed (by the Iguana God himself I suppose) safe to buy & use for our igs. If it does not say how much uvb it emits....then it is NOT an appropriate "full spectrum " light! Uvb emitting flourescent tubes produce NO heat. Only high density discharge lamps produce UVA/UVB/UVC.
Depending on your IGUANA'S needs and set up....
Appropriately placed and inaccessible to your ig..
1) incandescents household bulbs for heat & light especially basking areas, Do NOT get ripped off buying "reptile lights that screw in" what a joke! Use a regular ole household lightbulb for basking spots....may have to play around with the wattage to get the desired temp....
2)uvb emitting tube.....running 10-12 hours a day.
to maintain night time temps- infared blue or red heat lamps (heat and some vision w/o disturbing igs sleep), or a ceramic heat element (no vision) just heat
If your ig is a baby ...Im sure it would enjoy an undertank heater under a small cardboard hidebox...better than that buy a $15 human heating pad....use it inside and under hidebox...as ig gets older wrap the human heat pad around favorite basking branches or shelf..what have you. But undertank heaters aren't necessary imo! Hope this helps ya...
