It will haunt you (and the poor students who know better) to sit there and watch the thing suffer until death-- wich judging from your story isn't far off in my opinion. It will be hard, but you'll have done the right thing. Offer the printed out material as suggested below, then let the kid keep tabs (give you updates)but when you give the info-- stress that you are VERY serious about this. After a week, if nothing changes, go to the principal or PTA or whatever (you could threaten right before hand to let him know you mean business) Threats are not my first choice, but if that's all you are left with in the end. I had a similar story with a coworker, and in the end-- just tricked her into getting the lizard away from her and found it another home-- here on the forum as a matter of fact. Now he's doing great and she has no idea what happened. Good luck and keep us posted please.
