Greetings! I've been (quietly) following iZ's problems and
progress. I, too, have an iguana with kidney failure, and I
find that there are some differences in our treatments even
though many of our green guys' symptoms are the same. I'm
always looking to compare notes and learn all I can.
Here are my questions:
1. Why are you giving iZ antibiotics? Where does his infection
lie? I was under the impression that antibiotics do more harm
than good in kidney cases and are used only as a last resort.
2. Have you tried Prednisone to help deal with the kidney and
dewlap swelling? Worked for Q.
3. Have you been advised to force liquids? My vet prescribed
at least 30 ccs of forced fluids a day and a half hour bath for
the rest of Q's life. Additional liquids help damaged kidneys
function better and are especially vital when an ig is on
antibiotics. This might also solve iZ's constipation.
I hope I don't sound like I'm being critical. That's not my
intention at all. It sounds like iZ has made incredible progress
under your care and I just want to learn from your experience.
Thanks!
