: Has anyone tried this light? It is advertised in the new reptile magazine.
***Yeah bought two! set it up maybe a month ago...FABULOUS!! I have a 160 watt flood and 300 watt flood for the larger outdoor enclosure...NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER...have a question? e-mail the owners!...they will tell you EVERYTHING you want to know. I had some very important concerns especially after reading what some of the reptile self-proclaimed experts had to say about Active Heat....asked at sci bio lighting a newsgroup for lighting techs and lighting specialists they said go for it still had some concerns about ballasts which these lamps do not use unlike the uvb tubes....then e-mailed the company....they sent me oodles of information both snail mail AND e-mail....said that they are well aware of the negative comments made by most of these self- proclaimed "authorities" on reptile care and will be updating their website to be more comprehensive to laymen like me. Ive got mine on timers....I expect them to last me for EONS! At the same price Ive paid about for a "full spectrum uvb emitting tube" that has to be REPLACED EVERY 6-9 months! Im saving a fortune! I only use these lamps 2 hours a day....per ig and ONLY when I CANNOT get them outside for weeks at a time. Remember uvb/ vitamin D3 IS STORED IN FAT and the liver! IT IS FAT-SOLUBLE . If your ig is getting adequate uvb exposure natural sunshine, uv lamps what have you...it takes awhile before you need to start freakin out about getting them uvb. If your ig is getting ALOT of natural sunshine it takes about 3 days to process even one half hour of GOOD uvb exposure....distance from the equator is a factor...floridians and californians texans southern states of course would not need no where near the amount of natural sunlight exposure that igs in the northern states need Anyway...sorry for rambling here.....getting back to Active Heat...like I typed...have mine set on timers with porcelin-topped fixtures and a barrier so that the uvb/c is not as strong (cautious)...ALSO I have them positioned appropriately towards the rears of my igs basking spots and not directly overhead. These lamps are IDEAL for anyone who has like a room set up for their Igs or for ALOT of reptiles that all require uvb and have a room set up for them... EXCELLENT...get em ALL exposed to uvb at once w one lamp! These lamps emit ALOT of heat. Once they are off ya cannot turn them back on right away....takes awhile. I am EXTREMELY pleased. My igs have NEVER looked better,or appeared more healthy, more alert and active than they ever have since before using these lamps.
Sorry rambling again....got questions...email the company...their representatives ARE very nice and EXTREMELY professional. They will not bs you and they will NOT make you PARANOID! They will however...educate you and answer every single one of your questions, address your concerns, and calm your fears.....least they did mine ;-)
Much luck! Maybe what your looking for?....an alternative to replacing tubes, no bulky fixtures taking up a ton of space no need for those noisy ballasts....I'd seriously think about changing over if you think they have something to suit YOUR needs.
