: When I put my iguana on the kitchen counter he sometimes eats a few pieces of my cat's dry food - just a few bites - is this harmful to them?
*****Won't kill him but best to avoid! Long term- letting him eat it is NO UhUH NO good! Can develop kidney probs later (starts USUALLY around age 5-6 y/o) because of the animal protein (cat food is made for carnivores! not herbivores!!) and super duper high phosphorus content in it! So best not to let him get at it....makes ya think about why cats have those kidney (urinary) type probs when they get a little older huh??
Not to worry tho....Ive given one of my igs dry DOG food (at the recommendation of his vet) a few times until I SAW THE IGUANA LIGHT!!! lololol...his renal functioning is great so far!. Lots of water (on his food, baths, showers, misting, humidity)....keep those kidneys healthy! I think kidney failure;disease is probably the #1 cause of iguana death (iguana's over 5 that is!) and is totally preventable with good hydration, humidity, and diet!
Gina (tumbling 2 stories as I descend my soapbox.. a little bit too much sleep AND coffee this am!! Sorry Deb!!)
