I asked that same question about two months ago, and no one gave me a real stright answer.
But here's the deal:
iguanas can see the "light" produced by the black lights, so even though it may look dark and cozy, to them it's a day at the beach, when it's supposed to be sleepy-time. Though it's uncertain how intense the light made can be seen from the ig's eyes, why risk it?
THE SOLUTIONS: RED LIGHT or CERAMICS!
Reptiles, as well as some mammals, are blind to red-light. They just can't see the darn thing. That is why a lot of animal researchers use redlights when observing some animals at night.
A redlight placed up in the enclosure can provide
heat for the igand visibility for ya.
The ceramic "bulb" is probably the best way to go, since it warms up the animal, but doesn't over-heat the area (ZOO_MED makes'em).
So there you have it. In the ULTIAMTE OWNER"S MANUAL the answer is a "maybe" , since there is more research needed to make it a "sure" answer.
As for now, go for the red bulb or the ceramic.
Anything else, just ask! I'll be in Florida for the whole week, but i'll be here again on Tues.
See ya!
