Years ago, that was the mean (avg) of longevity, due to a lesser knowledge on husbandry.
However, i'm not saying you're a poor owner.
Some iguanas die @ 5 yrs. due to cancer, or other deases. The reacord for longevity is 29 years (!!!), and this iguana was raised from the 70's!!!
So as you can see, you never know whe nthe hour-glass expires for them. Today, the mean lies at about 10-13 years, with a possible 15 or more if kept well and being lucky.
It's a hard loss. Do you have others? After a little while, starting with a baby ig helps soothe the grief, after all, dont babies bring smiles in a house? :)
if you want, you can have a neucropsy done on the animal (autopsy for animals) by the vet, to find out what happened.

: Miss Guy died of kidney failure on Thursday. We took her to a specialist and she said that captive iguanas only usually live to 6 or 7.
