I am flattered that some people think that I am new to all this. I am just curious to see what other people are doing.
Our igs, when they are big enough, get to free roam. They have heat and light(UV) set-ups in their favorite hang out areas.
The main enclosures ( which run about 500 to 600 dollars each - and I build them too )consist of the following:
Double walls - foam insulated
Viewing windows - front and back
Real Life Tropical murals-floor to ceiling on the interior walls
Green outdoor carpet(not astro turf) covered climbing trees and basking platforms
Linoleum foors - for easy cleaning
Raised removable screen floors - put paper underneath these for easy cleaning
All other interior sufaces are painted green
All interior surfaces( except glass) have 8 layers of Varathane
The ceiling is painted and removable, holes with circular lighting covers permit the use of a subceiling where the lighting mounts and wiring are located
UV lighting consists of 36 inch reptisun 5.0 flourescents
Reg lighing is 100 watt soft white bulbs
Heating is White 250 watt heat lamp and 250 watt ceramic heater - spaced apart for horizontal and vertical heat inversion layers - ie: hotter on one side than the other, hotter going up, cooler going down
All lights and heating are on 24 hour timers
Heating is regulated by 2 in-line 110v thermostats set at varying levels for regulated day and nite heating
Venting is top and bottom
Humidity is regulated with 14" waterfalls on the second basking level
There is also an assortment of mounted silk tropical plants for realism( mine I guess )
Thermometers with remote sensors are placed outside the enclosure, with the sensors accordingly places at various locations to monitor heat.
All fabric sufaces are treated( non toxic) for waterproofing and stain resistance.
Since the igs get to free roam, the enclosures are used for sleeping mostly. The standard size is 7ft high, 2 1/2ft deep, 4 ft long. These might be too small if used all the time, but they are not.
Hopefully when my web site is up, I will have pictures of these. PS. the enclosures are on wheels for moving around if necessary. Sorry this was long, I didn't want to give the impression that I was some dork with cardboard boxes or 10 gallon aquariums.
