: Hi
: The whole idea with these cages is that they are taking care of themselves, sort of. They have been running now for 6 years, and I havn't taken one piece of faeces out of those cages (!!!!!)..grose, you say..and I would have agreed before I tried it. There is a high pressure on the cages ( one cage contains 3 Golden Lion Tamarins, two 5' Iguanas, three Two-toed Sloths and two Red-footed Tortoises ) and still there are no bad smell or piles of s**t lying around, on the contarary the smell is like when you enter a "planthouse". ALL biological material is decomposed, leaving HEAT ( finally got there, lol )!! The material is warm from the decomposing process!! When I at 75 days where going to dig down and pick one egg up to see if there was a development in them I felt the heat and unfortunatly I didn't check it with a thermometer, but next time I will!! I think the temp was right when she laid them in January, but the incoming sun started to heat the cage somewhat ( maybe a couple of degrees C. ) and together with the moist in the cage it increase the decomposing and hence increase the temp IN the material as well ( sometimes MUCH to MUCH!! I actually cookeed some of the plant's roots at one time. At that time the material was HOT from decomposing. You learn from your mistakes!)
: Answers your q? And, yes I'm very interested in the articles!
