In Reply to: WHEW! food is widespread here--who has had an IG live the longest and what staple diet used?? posted by IG27 on March 02, 2000 at 23:15:33:

It is a good idea to ask that question. Although some of us here have had rescues and they come to you with many problems (and poor diets while growing up) so that has an impact on life span as well. I have young ones now, myself-- and my last rescue definitely did not live as long as I hoped (maybe 7-8 yrs.) but he had major problems upon arrival and research back then was not the best (in the beginning I fed the things I know avoid like spinach, kale, carrots, lima beans, bananas, a bite of egg a couple x per month) (this was not his staple diet but back then I mixed these in with other items) I am sure that those items could have done some damage to his organs (along with his viruses and deep burns) All I know is I'm not taking any chances with my juvenile. If I read anything bad about an item, I keep it away because I want this one to have a better chance at life.
