Not sure what head bobbing means back to them, but Dan's idea is very good-- after they do it, go to them and pet their heads, making them lower their head and close their eyes. I did this with Salvador everytime he bobbed at me. He was 5 feet so could have done some damage, but he always submitted and never opened his mouth once toward me--just licked. Then after awhile he would rarely bob at me-- he would save it until he was in the presence of another lizard or outside to let the world know he was king! He also hated an iguana hand puppet I had and would bob at that. That is actually a funny story. I was being kinda mean seeing what he would make of it-- and he threatened it, but when I brought it closer to him, he started to back up, afraid. So I would act like he chased it away to make him feel better (more dominant) Then he would perk up and puff up his chest, bobbing at it. I then hid it because I realized it upset him. The rest of the night he patrolled the living room, bobbing his head at each corner of the room-- as if to say,..."and stay out!!! My territory" Sleestack has only head bobbed at a female iguana and once at his reflection (but it's real half-assed like he tires of it half way through!) I had memorized Salvador's head bob pattern (always the same). I think one time he was annoyed at me for getting him to eat something he didn't want and bobbed at me!
Sorry I went off on a memory tangent! The moral of this is, I think it's usually not a "hello" exactly, so bob at your own risk! Just make sure you show your dominance...
