Allrighty, first off, use the Iguana Den diet, secondly you really should have done all this before you commited to adopting, also make sure that you have a basking light, its a good way for the iguana to get heat, more affective then a heating pad, but they are fine for the winter time, they like to crap in water so with a water bowl that size be prepared for alot of changes. Your need a UVB Bulb such as the Reptisun 5.0 that the lizard can get acess too unhindered by glass, if he/she was going to get sunlight you would need it to be unfiltered, in other words if it goes through glass it wont do the job, but I am sure that the iguana will love the light and the air coming in the windows. I suggest useing the supliments Rep-Cal and Herptivite, if it has mites you will see small black insects on the animal and in the tank, the mites will probably be around the dewlap, armpits and around the dorsal crest, and other places, if it has mites you wont miss them if you look for them. They dont care what thier name is, but they can sence your mood so make sure you are comforatable, if you are afraid of the animal in any way it will know. My iguanas rather listen to the sounds outside when I open the window then music, and I have 3 cats. Be prepared to buy about 10 dollars in food every week or so, depending on how much it eats and how well the vegies keep in the fridge, That about coveres everything, I will also send this in E-mail form incase you dont get around to reading this.

: hey now! i am about to adopt an abandoned ig. i wanted
: to do my research & get things set-up before bringing it
: home (friends are petsitting for me). i've read over mk's
: page & many others...and i've read many of the posts here.
: so i'm not bustin out these questions because i'm lazy!
: i've done the research...there's just some things i'm still
: a little hazy on...did i say some? i meant many!
: *heating pads~ is it safer or more efficient to use the
: people kind? i would think the reptile kind are safer...but
: they're rather costly...and where is ideal to put them?

: *my new ig is about 3ft...my cage mesurements will be 4h,
: 3w,4L...with an 11" water bowl IN the floor...are those good
: mesurments for the time being till i can add on? my ig
: will only be in the cage when i'm at work. he has a
: fav. basking stick that he's been using for some time...
: should that go in or out of the cage?

: *is there anything cheaper than plexiglass to use on the
: cage?

: *for lighting~ the cage will be near a window, but i'm sure
: additional lighting should be used. should i also include
: a ceremic fixture? what about the "moonlights"...are they
: needed? the one i have is uva...is that allright?

: *how deep should the bathing water be?

: *when he sheds should i clean up the skin or will he take care
: of it?

: *what specific brand of supplements do you suggest?

: *i know they don't recognize our language, but they
: understand tone...does that influence naming him...i'd
: like to change his name.

: *we have 2 cats...will that be a major problem?

: *do igs enjoy music when i'm not around?

: *how will i know if he has mites?

: *and, what kinds of dark leafy greens do you suggust...
: collards, mustard...?

: thanks for hearing me out & taking the time to shed some
: light. i'm really excited about this addition to my life.
: send me good prayers!~~~~~~~jah love~~~~~~~
