I am worried about my iguana, Help please!

Hercules my iguana came to my classroom as a gift 3 years ago, This winter he has developed what looks like dry skin in white flakey patches that peel and then seem to scab then peel. Does this sound familiar? Any ideas on how to treat this? He has never had any problems like this before and I am worried.
