In Reply to: Who's CHEAPER to feed? an afult Green IG, or Med/Large Monitor? (please be honest).....(more) posted by * IGUANA JOE * on February 23, 2000 at 15:32:30:

Even in the winter around here greens are pretty inexpensive, about $.79 a pound. But in order to provide a variety each week, I have to buy at least 3-4 different kinds of greens. With just one or two igs, I think you'd see some waste here as the greens would spoil before using them up. I don't have that problem as I am feeding 16 vegetable-eating lizards at the moment, at least 3 trips to the supermarket each week. Rodents on the other hand can be purchased in any quantity and frozen, keeping for an indefinate time. Same goes for ground turkey. You could buy in bulk and freeze it. Even in the short run, I believe the monitor would be the least expensive date! :)
For cirsisue, to date, between vegetables, crix, mealworms and pinkies, I'm spending about $36 or so a week feeding the crew. I remember not too long ago it was 1/3 that much.......*sigh*.
The pic is Buzzy the Tegu....he's cheap to feed, ya just gotta watch your fingers real close! (we're having just way too much fun with this camera, sorry folks)
