: Are you suposed to leave the uvb light on 24 hours a day?
***NO!! Igs need photoperiods much like we do 12 hrs light and 12 hours dark. Some adjust according to natural sunset sunup which is also fine. Uvb lamps give NO heat but light which will be stressful for any reptile left on 24 hours.
: I also needed to know if I should have a regular light on for 12 hours then swith to the Blue light for the next 12 hours.
****During the winter months you may need to also provide heat to keep the enclosure warm enough...you can use ceramic heat emitters which give no vision, OR you can use heat lamps in red/ blue that provide heat as well as vision OR the blue/red colored light bulb that provides some heat and some vision...the vision is for YOU to peep in at your ig without turning on all the houselights to see what he/she's up too. The red/blue lamps do not disrupt igs sleep, but you may find that ig may need to get used to sleeping under it for a few days.
Perhaps you need neither.....heat nor vision for night. As long as nighttime temps do not go lower than 67 deg long term....your ig should do fine with just daytime heating and basking (appropriately placed)and operating 12+hrs a day
