As far as I know, they don't stop growing until the day they die... every shed is growth. I guess the typical ideal size would be around 6ft when they die (assuming they have all of their tail) I cannot tell you how large yours should be because a lot of it has to do with health and heredity. I've seen some size/weight samples posted somewhere-- I think on Melissa Kaplan's site if you want to check that out.
