I have built several wood cages and would not recommend any wood waterproofing sealer, except for the outside. Thompsons and others impregnate the wood and leave a chemical residue that may be poisonous to the ig. I would recommend a polyurethane sealer like Varethane, satin finish.
This seals the wood with a coating and dries to a hard finish. Use this sealer on all stained or painted surfaces too. Let it dry, with the aid of a heat lamp, for about 5 days. This will get rid of the fumes. You should not be able to smell anything, like stain-paint-sealer-whatever, in the cage at all. CW
