The first and foremost reason is that spinytail iguanas require animal protein as well as vegetables in the diet. Unless you plan on removing the spiny for feeding, there is the first problem. The second problem is that spinys do not require the humidity that green iguanas do. I've been thru trials and tribulations with my spinys, at one point taking them off all animal protein at someones suggestion. I noticed an immediate slowdown in growth rate and considerably less energy. During this nonprotein period I housed a spiny with my Rhino iguana. All was well for a little while, altho the Rhino was quickly overtaking the spiny is size. After a couple months the spiny became aggressive, even tho he was 1/3 the size of the Rhino. From what I understand, spinys are much better off housed by themselves. They are harder to tame down then the greens, so be prepared to spend a ton of time with one. They are attractive and interesting pets to keep, but I really suggest you keep one apart from your green baby. Feel free to email if you would like to know more. IguanaJoe, where are you on this one? :)
