Hello, I'd just like to add my experience with dog food and kidney problems... regular dog food does have enough animal protein in it to REALLY SCREW UP kidneys.
I own a dalmatian and they are particularly sensitive to animal protein in their diets compared to other breeds... many dalmatians get kidney stones because of the amount of animal protein in regular dog food. I fed my dog Purina Lamb and Rice formula dog food since he was 8 weeks old... he still developed the kidney stones due to too much animal protein. And this kind of food was recommended to me by the vet as being low in animal protein. I ended up mixing his food with vegetarian dog food to lower the amount of animal protein. If he didn't fart so bad with the vegetarian only, I would have switched him completely! As it turned out, he had a problem with his coat, so now he's on a fish and potato formula (can only get it at the vet and it costs a freakin' fortune!).
Now think here for moment, if dog food can screw up a 50 lb. dogs kidneys, what is it doing to your tiny iguanas kidneys? I would NEVER take this chance, especially when you can get him the protein he needs safely.
btw, I like my iguana a lot more than my dog! ;-)))
