: although I DO agree that "we" are nameless, faceless strangers and you don't know our credentials (or LACK thereof) .....
: but i have read from too many different sources that state ANIMAL protein is NOT beneficial to iguanas ..... even as little as five years ago, we thought igs WEREn't herbivorous until they're adults .... MOST experts agree now that igs are BORN herbivorous, their bodies are not made to digest animal proteins ..... you CAN feed a totally vegan diet and get enough protein ....
: (my experts are: Melissa Kaplin, Dr. Adam Briton,
: James Hatfield, MY vet: Terry Moore , etc)

: BUT!!!!!
: iguana diets seem to be something that we will NEVER ALL AGREE on!!!!!!
: good luck to you!!!!!!

hi iz's mom :) well i (polity)dissagree with you
i had read some books that did advice for some animal protien in iguana diets so when i first came here i thought i commited a very big crime
by giving mu juveniles some animal protien (only five percent of diet and no more then three times a week)
until i found this little piece of informantion wich releaved me (sigh)
i have some first hand experience with feeding juveline iguana's liev grasshoppers (not toomuch !!!)
and found the relish them after reading this quote below i think that some animal protien with no added salt or other substances can be fed (in smal proporsions to young iguana's
however like you said , i dont think that there wil ever be an agreement on a iguana' diet and commen sence is realy importantend,
wel happy ig keeping !

"So, where does that leave us, other than confused? The answer is, with
good
common sense based on existing facts: feed a well-balanced plant-based diet,
and supplement with small amounts of high quality animal-based protein when
young, tapering off as they iguana reaches adulthood. Hatchlings and
adolescent iguanas have a greater need for protein as they are in a period of
rapid growth. The need for protein decreases with age, with adult iguanas
having the lowest need of all."
