In Reply to: Need input about about dog food..... posted by Mark on August 13, 1998 at 14:38:56:
: I have had my Ig (Reptar) about a week now and I carried him/her to the vet today. She (the vet) specilizes in reptiles and she was very pleased with our living conditons and diet for Reptar. She did, however, recommend giving Reptar some dog food. I told her what I had read on the internet about that matter and she agreed with it. Then she went on to say that the only reason she is suggesting it is because she was concerned that he may be too skinny and feels Reptar may need a little "jump start". She recommended just a very tiny bit 2 or 3 times a week just for the next 3 weeks.
: Reptar also had parisites in his/her fesis and was giving meds for it. I also have a follow-up appointment in 3 weeks.
: What do you all think? Should I give the dog food? Also I was given some Pure Synergy to give Reptar, does anyone have any input on it? The vet said it was a great supplement.
: One final note, the vet assured me that there would be no harm in giving the dog food to such a young Ig (appx. 6 months: 3" SVL).
: Thanks all,
: Mark
alright poeple i'm PROUD OF YOU !!!!!!!
(uhh who am i :-)
seems there was a good discussion without calling names or flaring at each other (megacool)
i like the way each provided an insight, or data .
now with that out of the way ...
i persanoly dont like dogfood that much i think there is way to much salt in it,
and wel it was made for dogs who have a way differnt metabolisme than. iguana's
i had some juveniles a long time a go who were very skinny (malnutrition by previous owner)
and read around a little, asked a little and decided againts dog food (imo and i'm no expert okay)
and instead gave them those live gaint grasshoppers, you can find them in a good rep store i know a lot of poeple dissagree with
animal protien for ig's but evey thing ive read includes some in the diet, but young iguana's in the wild have been obseerved eating grasshoppers and crickets
(altough in an other county or place they didn't) how evr when i fed them to my ig's they became fierce hunters
i feed them there normal diet and give the grasshoppers on the side the would chase them and eat them (giving me more reason to believe that iguana's
when young do like a little animal protien.
but i think that cricket do not have the added substances that dogfood have
wel this is my humble opinion
and keep up the nice discussions !!!
