I think Tapeworm is quite rare in green iguanas because nearly everyone keeps their iguanas inside, not roaming the hills like cattle or sheep. If an iguana was kept for an extended period of time in a yard open to the outdoors where birds or other reptiles like small snakes might be pooping, or ticks and other bugs might be around, or where the iguana could eat infected dirt, yes the chance for tapeworm would be much higher.
Both Akira and I and a bunch of vets that Akira knows in Japan have been waiting and waiting to see an actual tapeworm specifically from an iguana. I always hear about them but have never seen it actually. I would still say cestodes are quite rare in iguanas, much more rare compared to for instance nematodes and certain kinds of protozoa. IMHO they are not really as much of a problem as certain kinds of nematodes and protozoa, even though they are much larger and disgusting looking!! ;-)
