You could use a red bulb all of the time for heat but keep in mind it should look like daylight in there (if your room is bright this would be cool).

If he is a juvenile, I would use a little sprinkle of calcium every day and vitamin supplement once per week. When he gets older, you can use less calcium (like a little every few days or some do it once per week).
