: Glad you are so excited and interested in finding out proper care.
: The aquarium will do for now until you can build something. A hammock and branches/rocks(not hot rocks) are fine. Get him a hidey hut or make one out of a box or tupperware container (that will also do as a little shelf for him to climb on. He will need some drinking water (you can have a bigger container, but he may poop in it) Use newspapers in the bottom for easy cleanup, although astroturf is fine if he is like one of those crazy lizards that you notice trying to eat the newspaper (rare, but I had one). The UVB tube light is very important (change every 6 months whether burnt out or not) The size is up to you-- the bigger the better, but if you set up his cage so he is encouraged to be near the UV light, (like with food and water at other end, but basking branches at light end) it is probably okay to have a smaller one. You certainly need a heat lamp, but keep it far enough away that he doesn't get burned. Also a night heat bulb or ceramic bulb used during sleeping hours is needed to keep him nice a warm. A wire top for the cage is fine.
: As far as food: pellets/canned food may be okay in a pinch, but fresh veggies and fruit are better-- here are some good ones with the right nutritional makeup. Use a few greens: collard, mustard, escarole, watercress, dandelion. Supplement with squashes, sweet potatoes, zuchinni. Add a few bites of fruit (don't over do the fruit if you don't want messy poo) Strawberries, blueberries, and melons are good ones! There are more foods you can try but these are a good staple to start with (Avoid spinach, lettuce, kale, bananas).
: You need to get a calcium supplement (powder) or use crushed up cherry tums. A vitamin supplement is a good idea (to use once/twice per week) Rep-Cal Herptivite is a great brand (off brands have similar names to trick you so pay attention to that spelling) I have Rep-Cal calcium too but I may use tums in the future. You can buy these items much cheaper on the internet, but sometimes you need them right away so you have to suck up the price (my Herpivite was $12.99 from a pet store). Some pet stores don't carry these better more expensive brands because most won't pay for them. You can also make your own branches and stuff instead of buying them.
: I will give you a link to one of my web pages that has some helpful links including MK's site.
: Let us know how it goes-- good luck!
