In Reply to: Moment of SILENCE for an ig with no name... posted by xta on February 05, 2000 at 13:52:45:

: A coworker came to me and said they received an iguana as a gift for Christmas. They didn't ask for one and didn't really want one, but figured they'd keep it. I have the reputation as the herp crazed freak at work so she talked to me after 1-2 weeks about it. They were keeping it in a 10 gallon aquarium and feeding it iceberg lettuce and carrots. They just bought an outdated book with I tried to convince her was wrong about many of the care issues. I hand wrote her a new diet and told her about cage size requirements, sun, UV bulbs, and heat. She never spoke to me again about it. Of course I asked her the next week how things were going with him. She then told me that he got spooked by one of her 3 cats that were always stalking him and jumped out of her hand, running behind the kitchen cabinets. This had happened 3 days prior. They couldn't figure out a way to get him out and her boyfriend didn't want to damage the apartment in case they had to pay for it. I was horrified and encouraged her to use a saw herself. She said she would do it that night, but avoided me after that. I never asked about it again because I really had a bad feeling and didn't want to know (I knew she'd tell me if they found it alive because she planned to return it to the pet store after that). I found out from another coworker that she did try to saw under the cabinet, but it did no good. And I guess they found him a week later barely alive with his tail sticking out under the cabinet. They took him to the vet and he died there ( I imagine he was in horrible shape after 2 weeks without food, water, heat or light) Again I found this out from another coworker and she will probably never talk to me about it. I do not completely blame her because she never asked for an ig-- I blame the stupid relative who gave someone with 3 cats a small ig when they never expressed interest in reptiles in the first place. Anyway, please say a little prayer for the nameless ig who suffers no longer.
