Has anyone ever heard of an Ig with an eating disorder?? For the past two months or so, Iggy has been eating ever-so-slightly less and less. I didn't really pay attention at first, just normal ups and downs of appetite. When she lost the rotund look, I thought it was just the time of year. It has been so gradual that in looking at her several times a day, I didn't notice the weight loss. Now I see hollows appearing below her ribs. Waaaahhh!
Everything else is exactly the same. Her poops are less frequent and of less volume, but regular and the same. The only change to her diet has been to add collard greens, which she likes. (Don't get excited - they just aren't available where I live in Canada. In fact, no one anywhere had ever heard of them. I finally found them in an organic specialty shop in another town.) Her behaviour is the same. She spends more time out of her cage than before. Accordingly, I have upped the temperature in the room to near max. (Anyone want my hydro bill??) This is the only difference. She spends the afternoon looking out the window. And scratches the corners to get out. It is so sad. (shall I admit I ran around outside to wave at her in the window for all the neighbourhood to see....uh, maybe this is it???? She saw that I can go out, but she can't???? Could I live with such a thought??)
My husband is going to build a proper cage for her within the next month, as hers is a miniature version of what it should be. No, I won't admit to the size, but so far she has been comfortable and able to get out almost whenever she wants. This is the Ig we are "babysitting" or should I say have inherited??
As for vets, the best one anywhere near me does not know even as much as I do, so I won't bother wasting my money unless I need to. Last time he refused to do a poop sample! And there I am - fresh poop in one hand, money in the other! Go figure. (did eventually do it)Yes, I phoned everywhere, checked herp vets on line, etc etc.
End of story is, I am not *overly* concerned at this point. She is eating only slightly less than normal, it is over time that the weight has been lost. If she stays the same, and does not improve with a new cage...then I will panick immediately. Just thought I'd see what you all have to say about Ig depression or eating disorders. And - as always - thanks for everything.
