: I would get another opinion if i was you. i have heard alot of bad stuff about dog food causing kidney or liver damage.
Kidney and liver damage in iguanas are seen in iguanas who are fed dog food almost exclusively.
Keep the young iguana's protein intake at at 10-15% for his first year and make sure dog food is not his only source of protein. Dog food is convenient and safe food for young iguanas if used in Moderation. I'm glad to see that everyone is aware of the danger--but be realistic--you would have to feed alot of dog food to a juvenile to do serious damage. Adult iguanas are another story--keep their protein intake below 5%--I wouldn't bother with dog food with adults--they can get all they need from beans.
Young iguanas are opportunistic eaters that will eat insects, carrion and other animal protein in the wild.
Once again--listen to your vet--he has done the exam.
No offense, guys, I just wanted to temper your extremism.
Jason
