Cedar, for example, is pretty but contains oils that will soon kill a reptils. The old-time farmers used to use cedar and sassafrass poles for roosts in their chicken coops to keep mites under control. Also avoid pressure-treated lunber. It contains arsenic.

: any wood is fine ... pine is prob'ly the most common and also the cheapest ... (+ what i used) ...
: when you're picking your boards, 2x2's etc ... make sure to get the smoothest ones possible ... (that might seem like a no-brainer, but hey ... i didn't realize that not every board Menard's sells is *perfect* til i got some really cruddy ones ... grrrrr ... pick your own boards ~ don't have the sales crew do it!)
: i stained the boards and then applied a couple coats of polyurethane to them ... worked great!
: make very very very sure the boards/new enclosure is totally aired out before putting your ig anywhere near it! the fumes that are just annoying to us could kill them ... i let mine air for a week, tho 2-3 days might be long enough ...
: happy building!!!
