hey what's up?
i found your post with the url, and saw the pic of
CECIL (it's him right?).
Cecil looks like a Ctenosaura hemilopha because:
1) small size (they are quiet small for spinys).
2) banded tail, it's the only one i saw with such large bands. others are smaller, andtoward the end of the tail.
3)almost lack of 'spikes' on the back. the picture i have of hemilopha has no protruding spikes like the others.
4) ifthe tail is somewhat keeled, then it's gotta be it!
this is as much as i found out. i'm 90% sure it's a C. hemilopha.
did you visit Sandy Kiraly's Iguana Niche? (or Den, either one). she has spinys as well
(C. pectinata), and has more experience with spinys. she's very nice and will be of great help to you. the picture i have is on Sprackland's GIANT LIZARDS, pg. 243.
should CECIL grow spikes, then i'm lost. but i'm pretty sure it's a C. hemilopha.
hope this can help. with time the characteristics will show better, making him easier to id.
see ya!
:-)
: Hey Joe! any help identifying my spinytails? did you look at my pics on the earlier post? If it helps, Cecil started out green but quickly turned some wonderful shades of brown and black, sometimes now even showing some peach or salmon colorations, and she has 2 rows of normal scales between the spiny rows on her tail. Her belly is creamy white. She has been very slow growing, especially when I cut way back on her animal protein, so I'm assuming she is one of the smaller varieties. At just over a year old she's about 20" stl and 8" svl. Any thoughts? Thanks.
