things seem to be going very well lately, (tho i'm scared of 'jynxing' me + iZ by actually saying anything like that!)

he's eating on his own now for the last couple weeks ... tho it's still a specially made pureed collard/powdered calorie formula mush ... at least we've graduated from the totally liquid diet (+ oral syringes!) he was on for SIX weeks ... (*yech* we were *both* sick of that!)... have started adding some more solid food to his diet ... grated squash + zucchini, mixed in with the collard mush ~ *NUMMY* ... but i want to keep him on the calorie supplement mush for a while yet since he'd lost SO much weight ... he's finally filling back out pretty good, ribs don't stick out so much, thighs are getting a bit plumper ... his lower legs (calves) are still *very* wasted looking, no muscle tone, skin just kinda hangs there ... his legs are alot stronger than they were, but cuz of the lost muscle in his calves, he's not very good at climbing yet ... doesn't have very good control over his feet for keeping his balance on his tree-limb basking spot + had to put a shelf up there instead for him so he didn't fall ...

he's peeing + pooping on a daily basis + keeping his mom happy ... he was constipated earlier this week, but a bit of milk of mag and some kiwi added to his dinner has cleared that up nicely ...

and he's finally *SHEDDING* ~ *HOORAY* ... (that was one of the very first symtoms back in oct, stuck shed) ... now he's shedding like crazy + is pretty grouchy from being itchy ... i think he's still gonna lose some of his spikes cuz the shed has been stuck for sooo long and has strangled them ... it just wasn't possible to get the shed loosened soon enough to save them ... but if that's the only bad thing that happens out of all this, that's not too bad at all ...

it's been too snowy + too cold here to really want to venture out for a 4 hour round-trip visit to the vet to get his stitches out ... our car just isn't that reliable + i don't want to risk getting stuck in the cold (again) ... so ... after supper last night, he had an extra tub soak and then with hubby's help, i snipped his stitches + took them out ... there was only 7 and it went fine ... (+ i claim enough medical experience to be able to do this, btw) ... his incision looks good, it healed really great ...

he's more thirsty than he was before he got sick, but i think part of that is that for the 1st 6 wks, i was giving him 70-100cc of fluids everyday + so he's just usesd to it now?? i still encourage him to drink alot to keep his kidneys/bladder flushed out ... (+ he gets drinks of cranberry juice everyday) ... he still passes little "chunks" of urates once in a while ... but they're getting smaller and i think it's something that's resolving itself ... still *can't* feel his kidneys ~ *whew!* so they are no longer swollen ...

he's back hanging out in the livingroom at night with me, up in his basking spot ... *grin* ... he sends bobs of thanks for all the support from everyone + tongue flix to the girlie igs ...

i think we're having a *happy* ending!!!! *big grins*
